Due to popular demand, this tiny fish market grill is adding a second dining room with seating for another 30 or so of its loyal fans. That means there's a better chance that I won't have to wait a long time for the swordfish club sandwich with avocado-and-caper mayo that I'm craving. It means that more folks will discover the terrific tacos made with juicy, panko-crusted halibut, shredded cabbage and mashed avocado, and the equally alluring fish 'n' chips.
Bay Park Fish bills itself as a retail market, too, and there's a small refrigerated case of fresh fish just inside the door. Dinner guests can choose a "catch of the cay" and have it expertly grilled and teamed with jasmine rice and excellent sauteed vegetables.
When whole rockfish, caught just off Torrey Pines beach, makes an appearance, the spiky creature becomes the must-have entree. Fish entree plates cost about $18; sandwiches, savory salmon burgers and taco plates with rice and pinto beans are all less than $10.
A grilled chicken torta and a chuck burger are available for the carnivores in the crowd. There's a limited selection of wine, by bottle and glass, and a good choice of brews on tap.
The Fish Co. is full service and uses real dishes and flatware. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, both at small mix-and-match tables and the eight-seat bar, where a lively crowd and large-screen TV provide entertainment.
Lunch and dinner daily. |
